WHO ARE WE?
Established in April 1986, the International University of the Americas is one of the most prestigious and famous private universities in Costa Rica. It is also acknowledged at an international level. Its academic quality, the diversity of its careers, the functionality of its campus, and the technological development of its labs make the University a unique institution.
The International University of the Americas (UIA) is a higher education, independent, and private institution that offers and promotes teaching in different areas of knowledge especially those professional disciplines that society needs for the development of the society based on a strategic and integral plan.
The University offers an educational level including the following standards:
UIA is a leading university in the field of globalized higher education. It widens the working opportunities of its students related to the socioeconomic processes that are developed as a result of the insertion of the country in a global world based on the principles of human development, globalization, and lifelong learning.
Hence, the University is based on the following four principles:
An advanced technological development has provided the teaching-learning process the necessary instruments and tools to succeed.
As part of its development, the University has expanded and diversified its services to fulfill the needs of its students providing updated of its educational programs. Likewise, the university is working its operations in new regional offices and implementing e-education platforms to widen its virtual education.

To form professionals that act as critical and creative citizens about themselves, their socioeconomic environment, and the system of individual and social values in order to strengthen the society with justice, freedom, and peace.
To transform students through the knowledge acquired and high-level demands to achieve a growth in the levels of efficiency in production and public and private administration.
To fulfill the need of professionals in those prioritary areas of socioeconomic development that the country lacks.
To promote the development of human resources based on the demands and needs of the country according to the advances in knowledge and modern technology.
To contribute to a cultural exchange among universities in Europe, Asia, and America.
To develop knowledge in sciences, arts, technology, culture, and new forms of sociocultural, scientific, and technological development.
The main purpose is to form professionals able to face the challenges that globalizations demans in the framework of sustainable human development.
The ability to create new educational options and expand the academic and professional future of the students is possible through the following conditions:
The exploitation of the intermediate geographical position that Costa Rica has related to North and South America.
Exchange programs with universities located in different continents.
Accreditation of the University in the United States. Since 1996, the University became the first university in Central America to get an accreditation in the United States with the World Association of Universities and Colleges (WAUC).
Being part of different international networks that allow the exchange of instructors and students which facilitate the growth of the members of the university. The networks in which the University is enrolled are Latin American University Cooperation Network (RLCU), Interamerican University Organization, Association of Private Universities of Central America and Panama, Washington Center Network in the United States, Business School Network in France, among others. Soon, the University will become part of UREL Network (Union of Latin American Regional Universities), ALAFEC, and UDUAL (Union of Latin American and Caribbean Universities).
VISSION:
The University aims to expand the working opportunities of its students based on the socioeconomic processes produced by the insertion of the country in a global world.
The University will provide students the abilities to think and act critically and creatively to have the best academic and working performance.
The academic function of the University is basically to be a main point of approaching and exchanging ideas and innovative knowledge produced in the different academic and scientific centres in the world.
The University promotes higher education as well as the progress of sciences, arts, technology, and humanities. At the same time, it sponsors the development of research as an instrument for intelectual and human growth of societies.
The University is integrated by instructors, students, and administrative employees whose main objective is to create a flexible and dynamic organization.
OBJECTIVES:

To train students through knowledge and the highest academic standards to achieve a growth in the levels of efficiency of production and public and private administration.
To fulfill the needs of professionals in those important areas for the socioeconomic growth especially those that the country lacks.
To promote the development of human resources based on the demands and needs of the national market and the advances of knowledge and modern technology.
To help the Costa Rican government to provide a higher education that offers new opportunities and options to make the freedom of teaching come trae as it is stated in article #79 of the Political Constitution of Costa Rica.
To promote the identity of the Costa Rican people with values of the national culture and those values of universal culture.
To sponsor cultural exchange with other countries through acceptance of teachers and students coming from other countries.
To foment the appropriate conditions for the intelectual development with the commitment with the development of society.
To design intelectual activities in a systematic way in order to increase the knowledge of society on a specific subject.
To promote research within the community as an instrument for the intelectual, economic, and social development of the country.
To share the knowledge acquired through research by keeping a policy of periodical publications in magazines, newspapers, webpages, and books.
To promote that researchers, instructors, and students publish the results of their investigations through an editorial policy.
To expand the possibilities of non formal education through programs of lifelong learning.
